Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders announced Sunday that the club has acquired forward Kolten Olynek from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a conditional ninth round draft pick in 2017.
Olynek, a native of Saskatoon, SK is in his third full season in the Western Hockey League. In 23 games with the Chiefs this year, Olynek compiled two goals and two assists for four points. The 19-year-old has played 140 WHL regular season games, split between the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Moose Jaw Warriors, and Spokane, and has 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points.
"Kolten gives us added speed and some veteran depth up front," said Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt. "We are excited to get him acclimated right away."
The five-foot-ten, 170-pound winger was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second round, 26th overall, in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. Prior to playing in the WHL, Olynek was part of back-to-back appearances in the Telus Cup with the Saskatoon Contacts in 2012 and 2013. During his time with the Contacts, Olynek was teammates with current Raiders Reid Gardiner, Austin Glover, and Rylan Parenteau.
The Raiders are back on the road next week as they begin a four-game stretch in Alberta, starting with a match-up against the Calgary Hitmen on Thursday, December 3. The team returns to the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday, December 12 when they host the Kamloops Blazers for Canadian Tire Teddy Bear Toss Night.
