Warriors Narrowly Fall to Saskatoon

The Moose Jaw Warriors fought to create quality scoring chances throughout Saturday's game but unfortunately, they fell short, losing 4-2 to the Saskatoon Blades at the Subway WHL Hub.

As expected, this game was tight as both teams looked to limit the quality scoring opportunities.

At 9:01, Warriors 15-year-old Brayden Yager took a pass on the and then drove down the Blades right boards.  He cut around the Blades defenceman and then drove the net where he lifted a shot past goalie Keon MacInnes for his fourth of the season.

Just over a minute later, Saskatoon's Tristen Robins intercepted a Warriors breakout pass and then converted on a short break away.  At 14:19, Robins scored a power-play goal to give Saskatoon a 2-1 lead heading to the intermission.

1:25 into the second period, Saskatoon extended their lead when Tristen Robins set up Wyatt McLeod at the blueline for a slapshot that found the back of the net.

Moose Jaw fought their chances in the middle period, they outshot Saskatoon 10-5 in the frame, and with 2:03 remaining, they picked up a power-play goal from Tate Popple to make it a one-goal game going to the second intermission.

Early in the third period, the Warriors landed on a power-play and were able to develop some good looks at the Saskatoon net.  However, the Blades took the momentum away when Kyle Crnkovic scored on a shorthanded breakaway 70 seconds in the period.

Moose Jaw had their opportunities to claw back into the game, they outshot Saskatoon 14-9 in the third and 30-28 overall, but they were not able to punch the puck over the goal line and eventually fell 4-2.

With their record now at 7-8-1, the guys have the next two days off to prepare for a busy week ahead.  Tuesday afternoon they return to action when they take on Brandon, then on Thursday night they battle Prince Albert, and then on Saturday afternoon, they will have a rematch against the Wheat Kings.
