KENNEWICK, WA - The Americans defeated the US Division leading Everett Silvertips today in a 6-2 victory. It was the first time the Americans won a game against the Silvertips since September 20, 2019.
Edge Lambert opened scoring tonight at 4:11 first period with his first goal of the season. The goal was scored shorthanded and assisted by Sam Huo and Connor Bouchard.
Later in the period Jake Sloan tapped in a shot from Ian Ferguson to extend the Americans lead to two. Sloan, a 16-year-old center, went on to add two assists later in the game for his first career multi-point game. He currently leads all Americans rookies in scoring with two goals and four assists.
Through twenty minutes of play the Americans led 2-0 while being out shot 14-6.
Rhett Melnyk extended the Ams lead to 3-0 early second period with his first ever WHL goal. Sloan made a pass from behind the goal line to Melnyk who scored short-side on Silvertips goaltender Braden Holt.
Holt started in net tonight for the Silvertips and was relived by Dustin Wolf after the Americans third goal on eight shots.
The energy of the game shifted as Everett scored two power play goals in the middle of the second period. Cole Fonstad and Gage Goncalves scored the two Silvertips goals back-to-back cutting the Americans lead to one.
Tri-City regained control and scored once more in the second period with a goal from Booker Daniel. Nick Bowman set up the goal with a backdoor feed to Daniel, who scored top shelf.
Scoring resumed in the third period as Sam Huo netted his second shorthanded goal of the season off an unassisted breakaway. The 19-year-old forward is on a seven game point streak with six goals and six assists over that period.
Connor Bouchard added an empty net goal to seal a 6-2 victory for Tri-City.
