
Giants Winning Streak Snapped After 6-3 Loss to Prince George

Kamloops, B.C. - Saturday night in Kamloops the Vancouver Giants (5-2) dropped a 6-3 decision to the Prince George Cougars (2-2-1-1). Johnny Hooker paced the Cougars attack with a goal and three assists while Ethan Browne added a goal and an assist. Eric Florchuk assisted on all three Giants goals while under-age defenceman Mazden Leslie scored twice. It marked the first time in a span of five games this season that Giants goaltender Trent Miner had surrendered a goal against. It also marked the first loss for the Giants in a span of six games.
BOX SCORE
1st Period:
VAN - 2:14 into the game, Mazden Leslie opened the scoring from beside the Cougars net. Leslie pinched from the pound and was able to redirect an Eric Florchuk feed by Tyler Brennan for his third of the season.
PG - Ethan Browne ended Trent Miner's lengthy shutout streak with a backhand finish beside the Giants goal. Jaren Brinson's left-wing point shot went wide of the net, but bounced right to Browne at the opposite side of the net. The goal came at 8:43.
*Trent Miner's shutout minutes streak ended at 234 minutes and 31 seconds - Which stands as the new franchise record.
VAN - Giants captain Alex Kannok Leipert put his team back in front at 12:52 on a power play. Kannok Leipert took a feed from Justin Sourdif, and ripped a shot past Tyler Brennan from the right-wing circle. Eric Florchuk also earned an assist.
PG - Late in the first, Prince George tied the game on a power play of their own. Koehn Ziemmer parked himself in front of the Giants goal and deflected home a point shot from Keaton Dowhaniuk. The goal came with just 34 seconds left in the first period.

2nd Period:
PG - 4:40 into the middle frame, Cougars forward Craig Armstrong gave the Prince George Cougars their first lead of the night on a shorthanded breakaway. Armstrong's first goal of the season came unassisted.
*At 15:37, Bryce Bader was assessed a five-minute major penalty (and a game misconduct) for interference.
PG - With five seconds remaining in the period, Johnny Hooker notched his third goal of the season and fourth point of the night with a shot from the high slot that snuck through traffic and in.
3rd Period:
PG - At 9:55 of the final frame, Hudson Thornton notched his first career WHL goal in his first WHL game for the Cougars off a shot from the left-wing circle.
VAN - Back came the Giants at 11:15 when under-age defenceman Mazden Leslie wired home his second of the night and fourth of the season off a feed from Justin Lies. Eric Florchuk added his third assist of the night.
PG - The final goal of the night came courtesy of Connor Bowie into the empty net at 16:37.

- The Vancouver Giants are now 1-1 on the season against Prince George.
- Trent Miner leads all WHL goaltenders with a .950 save percentage and a 1.07 goals-against average. He's tied with Everett's Dustin Wolf for the league lead in shutouts with three.
