Warriors Look for Bounce Back in Prince Albert

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors' two matchups with the Prince Albert Raiders haven't went as planned so far this season.

"They're a hard team to play," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said. "They do such a great job clogging up things in front of their net, their goaltender had a heck of a night in Moose Jaw last time."

The Warriors opened the 2023-24 season with a 4-0 loss in Prince Albert and then fired 48 shots on the Raiders' net last Saturday in a 6-3 loss in Moose Jaw.

Heading back into the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday night, the Warriors are confident they can break through offensively against the Raiders.

"We felt like we had enough opportunities to score and to win [last Saturday], going into PA, it's just being a little more eager to get it there in a hurry," O'Leary said. "There's still some times we're a little bit hesitant when we get opportunities in the offensive zone and we just need to be ready to go when it's there."

The Warriors will be focused on putting together a rebound performance after a 4-2 loss to the Regina Pats at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Tuesday night.

"We're pretty disappointed, the same way we felt after our last game against Prince Albert," O'Leary said.

"We're playing really well five-on-five, we're not giving teams a whole lot, but to come away with losses, you fell like you've left an opportunity on the table."

Regina scored all four goals on the power play, making the penalty kill a focus over the past three days in practice.

"Number one, staying out of the penalty box, the last few years we've prided ourselves on being a disciplined team and not giving teams more than three opportunities in the game, we got away from that a little bit here," O'Leary said.

Warriors forward Atley Calvert said the team is focused on the little details with the penalty kill.

"The details of the game was really what killed us, we gave up four power play goals, so the details on the PK have been a focus point," he said.

Prince Albert is coming off a 6-4 win over Regina on Friday night on home ice and the Warriors know they will face a stiff test once again.

"We're ready for the challenge," Calvert said. "The biggest key is to match their effort and compete, they're a hard working team, so if we match that, we'll have a good result."

The Warriors and Raiders face-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Tune into WHL Live and Country 100 for all the action, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m.
