Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars delivered a commanding 7-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers at the CN Centre on Saturday. The Cougars' seven-goal outburst was highlighted by a spectacular performance from Zac Funk, who recorded five points in the win.
The Cougars wasted no time in setting the tone, as Hudson Thornton launched a slap shot just shy of centre ice that found its way past Kamloops Blazers' goaltender Dylan Ernst, taking an early 1-0 lead. Thornton's goal, his third of the season, occurred at 4:54 in the first period. Just three minutes later, Ondrej Becher and Zac Funk orchestrated a play that resulted in Terik Parascak's league-leading 13th goal of the season, extending the lead to 2-0.
Captain Hudson Thornton continued the Cougars' offensive onslaught with his second goal of the night at 11:31, showcasing an impressive solo effort in the offensive zone. Shortly thereafter, Ondrej Becher's shot ricocheted off Zac Funk's leg and past Dylan Ernst, marking the end of the Kamloops goaltender's evening with a 4-0 lead for Prince George.
The second period was no different, as the Cougars continued to dominate on the offensive front. Koehn Ziemmer forced a turnover and set up Zac Funk, who orchestrated a 2-on-1 play and found Riley Heidt for his sixth goal of the season at 6:54. The Cougars further extended their lead to 6-0 when Zac Funk netted his second goal of the night on the power-play at 18:15.
In the final period, the Cougars sealed the victory with another goal, courtesy of Zac Funk's hat-trick goal at 12:16, assisted by Keaton Dowhaniuk and Koehn Ziemmer. While Kamloops managed to break Ty Young's shutout bid with Ashton Ferster's goal at 18:19, the Cougars secured their 8th win of the season, maintaining their position at the top of the BC Division.
