On The Road Again

With a perfect 5-0-0 homestand now in the rearview, the Wintehawks hit the road for an extended nine-game road swing that starts tonight in Everett. Next week, the team heads north to visit the Central Division for two weeks before wrapping up the roadie in Kamloops and Vancouver in early November.

To kick off the trek with two points, Portland will look to match the result from their first meeting with Everett, a 4-1 win in the home opener on Oct. 6. James Stefan starred with two goals in that tilt, while Jan Špunar posted a stunning 42-save effort in the victory. Despite that result, the Silvertips carried play for much of that game and pose a greater threat on home ice. The Hawks are rolling, but the target on their backs grows bigger with each win - look for another good test against the 'Tips tonight.

Historic Hawks

If you were at Wednesday's game in the VMC, you certainly got your money's worth and then some. The Hawks dominated Brandon for an 11-1 win, with 13 players recording at least a point and the team's first double hat-trick since 2012. It was their seventh straight win and marked the first double-digit goal output since 2020.

But that result didn't come out of nowhere - the team outscored opponents 32-5 during its five-game homestand and 44-11 during its current seven-game winning streak, marking its highest-ever average margin of victory during a seven-plus-game winning streak.

During the current 7 game win streak for @pdxwinterhawks, they have outscored the opposition 44-11, a goal differential of 4.71/game.

All of this comes with the caveat that you don't win trophies in October - there's plenty of work to do yet. But there's no doubt that this run is worth enjoying and could be a sign of even greater things to come.

Going Streaking

How about James Stefan and Diego Buttazzoni?

The 20-year-old sniper and top 2024 NHL Draft prospect have found the scoresheet in all eight games thus far as linemates, and lead the team in scoring alongside their center Gabe Klassen. It's the longest point streak of either player's career, and Buttazzoni already sits just three points shy of matching his 2022-23 scoring total.

And as good as those two have been, perhaps even more impressive is that they are two of a whopping 11 Winterhawks averaging a point-per-game pace in the young campaign, highlighting the impressive team-wide production that has buoyed this hot start. Ten players enter tonight's contest on a point streak, from veteran standouts to budding young stars - look for Portland's depth to shine again as they look to stretch the team's streak to eight consecutive wins.
