Portland Winterhawks News Release

Everett, Wash. - The Winterhawks rattled off three goals in the third period to turn a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes into a 5-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night. Portland now sits at 8-1-0, currently riding an eight-game winning streak.

Kyle Chyzowski, Josh Zakreski and Josh Davies each scored in a span of 4:54 during the final frame to break a tight game wide open. Chyzowski started the flurry with a seeing-eye shot from the right-wing boards that snuck past Tyler Palmer three minutes into the third. Zakreski followed two minutes later, finishing a beautiful touch-passing play with Diego Buttazzoni and Marcus Nguyen for his third point of the night, then Davies deflected a Luca Cagnoni power-play blast to seal the two points.

Everett's lone goal came early in the contest as Jesse Heslop posted his second of the season just 3:26 into the first period. Seven minutes later, though, it was Portland's Ryder Thompson ripping a slapshot into the top corner from the left circle to send the teams to break tied at one goal apiece. Carter Sotheran then broke the deadlock midway through the second period when took a Zakreski pass and wired a wrist shot low to the glove side of Palmer for what would become the game-winning goal.

Portland's Jan Špunar earned his seventh consecutive start and seventh consecutive win between the pipes with 19 saves on 20 shots, while Palmer turned aside 42 of 47 for Everett.

The Winterhawks now head north to Alberta for a three-in-three set next weekend, facing Red Deer on Friday, Edmonton on Saturday and Calgary on Sunday.
