Warriors Fall 1-0 in a Shootout to Lethbridge on Tuesday
February 16, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Carl Tetachuk was stellar in goal, but the Moose Jaw Warriors couldn't beat Bryan Thomson in a 1-0 shootout loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
"We generated enough chances to score and they had some good looks as well and Teddy was good, so it was one of those nights where neither team could finish," Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.
Tetachuk, a Lethbridge product, made 33 saves through regulation and overtime to earn his sixth career shutout and first with the Warriors. He stopped three more in the shootout in the loss.
"He was the star of the game for us, made some big saves and just looks real comfortable and calm," King said. "He's been real good lately and obviously you need that goaltender going down the stretch in the playoffs."
Moose Jaw's only two losses in their last 12 games have been one-goal losses to the Hurricanes over the past week.
"I don't think there's going to be a whole bunch of adjustments," King said. "We go into the same mindset and just try and put as many pucks on the net as we can and we're eventually going to get rewarded.
"Don't take this as a negative, we played a pretty hard game."
Thomson, who hails from Moose Jaw, stopped 30 shots through 65 minutes of hockey.
He turned away Jagger Firkus, Brayden Yager, Ryder Korczak and Denton Mateychuk in the shootout, with the last two hitting the post.
The Warriors had a goal by Cordel Larson called back with 5:11 left in the second period after an offside challenge.
"A few chances that we had there were grade 'A' looks, but at the same time, they had theirs as well," King said. "Disappointed to get that one called back, it was the right call, it was offside."
Tetachuk made a massive save during a penalty kill for the Warriors in overtime, which sent the game to the shootout.
Yegor Klavdiev scored the shootout winner in the fourth round to secure the extra point for the Hurricanes.
The Warriors went 0-for-3 on the power play, while going 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the loss.
The Warriors will look to rebound coming up on Wednesday night when they travel to Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Calgary to take on the Hitmen.
Puck drops at 8 p.m. Saskatchewan time. Tune in on Country 100, Voice of the Warriors James Gallo will have all the action, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 7:40 p.m.
