Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Buoyed by three consecutive goals across the second and third periods, the Portland Winterhawks returned to the win column with a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday.

The Hawks have now won nine of 11 meetings against the Chiefs this year, including four of the five straight contests the teams just completed.

Portland opened the scoring late in the first on Kyle Chyzowski's ninth tally of the year. While carrying the puck behind the net, Jonah Bevington spun a pass on his backhand to a streaking Chyzowski at the near post for a tidy finish. Chyzowski extended his career-best point streak to eight games with the marker.

Spokane responded early in the middle frame as Raegan Wiles found twine with a quick wrister off the rush, but Marcus Nguyen restored the Hawks' lead before the midpoint of the second period with a five-hole finish on a shorthanded rush. Nguyen's tally was his 12th of the year and Clay Hanus picked up a point for the 12th time in his last 13 outings with a helper on the play.

The Winterhawks continued to carry play in the third period and added a pair of insurance markers to their lead midway through the frame. Tyson Kozak grabbed his 24th of the year - good for a share of the team lead with James Stefan - with a long-range, top-shelf wrist shot aided by a screen in front from Robbie Fromm-Delorme. Clay Hanus followed with another goal fewer than three minutes later, notching his 12th of the season off a Spokane turnover in its own zone.

Despite a late Chiefs tally from Jake Gudelj - his first in the WHL - Taylor Gauthier kept his perfect Portland record intact, having now won 11 of 11 starts since joining the Winterhawks after a 26-save showing on Tuesday.

With their five-game series with Spokane behind them, the Hawks head to Kennewick to take on the Tri-City Americans on Friday, then return home to welcome Seattle on Saturday and the final regular-season meeting with Spokane on Sunday.
