SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors posted a team-record 38 third-quarter points on the way to defeating the Maine Red Claws 110-103 Friday night.
Santa Cruz's Hilton Armstrong led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds (seven on the offensive side). Seth Curry scored 22 and dished out seven assists, while Dominic McGuire posted a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Maine was paced by Romero Osby, who scored 22 points. Chris Wright logged a double-double with 20 points and a Maine-high 15 rebounds, while Chris Babb and Marcel Anderson each scored 16.
The Red Claws held their largest lead of seven late in the first quarter and early in the second, taking a two-point lead into the intermission. The Warriors used a team-record 38 third-quarter points to pull ahead of Maine and never looked back, extending their lead to double digits in the fourth and cruising to the seven-point victory.
The Warriors outshot the Red Claws (49.3%-40.9%), connecting on 50% of their three-point attempts. Maine held the edge on rebounds (50-46) and points in the paint (44-34), but Santa Cruz committed fewer turnovers (14-16). Each team had 20 assists.
The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Boise to take on the Idaho Stampede next Saturday, January 18. The Warriors will be back at Kaiser Permanente Arena for Grind Out Hunger Night Presented by Wells Fargo on Tuesday, January 21 against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. While the team is on the road, fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM.
