Iowa Wolves News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - The Iowa Energy fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 124-121 when Ramon Harris drained a three pointer as time expired.
It did not look good for the Ants early as the Energy came out on fire. Shabazz Muhammad bullied his way to 16 first quarter points, and Moses Ehambe hit 3 three-pointers to give the Energy a 40-33 lead at the break.
Iowa extended the lead to as much as 14 points in the second quarter, but Fort Wayne started to get back into the game half way through the period. The home team went on a 21-7 run and went into halftime tied at 62-62. Ron Howard was the catalyst for the comeback, as he had 12 points in the quarter.
In the third quarter, the Energy took back control of the game. Marquis Teague had a great quarter and pushed the lead to as many as nine going into the fourth when he scored a quick five points on a three point play and a driving lay up to give Iowa a 97-88 advantage heading into the final period.
The Ants quickly got themselves back in the game in the fourth quarter, however, when Trey McKinney-Jones hit a three pointer to get the Energy lead down to one point. The Energy responded with a jumper from Muhammad and a free throw from Othyus Jeffers, but McKinney Jones knocked down another three pointer to give the Ants their first lead since early in the first quarter. The Ants pushed the lead to as high as five when Howard hit two free throws, but the Energy again came back with the counter punch and tied the game on a Muhammad jumper and two free throws from Kalin Lucas. It was then that the Ants called a time out with 9.9 seconds remaining in the game and the game tied. The ball eventually made its way to Jamaal Franklin, who drove and kicked to an open Harris, and he drained the three pointer with no time on the clock.
The Mad Ants were led by Ron Howard's 32 points, with Trey McKinney-Jones adding 22 points, Ramon Harris scoring 19, and Sadiel Rojas contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Six Energy players finished in double figures and were led by Muhammad's 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Patrick Christopher added 18 points for the visiting team.
The Energy return home Sunday to take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The two teams are the highest scoring teams in the NBA D-League. The first 500 kids through the doors will receive an Othyus Jeffers youth jersey presented by Dahl's. The doors open at 3 PM and the game tips at 4.
