Los Angeles Falls Late to the Stampede

BOISE, ID - The Los Angeles D-Fenders fell to the Idaho Stampede 123-113 tonight at the Century Link Arena.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (9-8) leaped out to an early 16-4 advantage over the Stampede (12-8). Despite the early dominance, Idaho bounced back and held a slight two-point edge after one. In the second period, it was the Stampede's turn to make a run, outscoring Los Angeles 15-4 in the first five minutes. James Southerland and Brandon Costner combined for a trio of three-point field goals late in the second quarter to help the D-Fenders re-secure the lead and carry a two-point advantage into the half. Overall, Los Angeles shot 45.8% from the field and knocked down 10 three-point field goals in the half.

Last night's catalyst, Manny Harris, broke out for 19 points in the third quarter to help Los Angeles extend their lead to eight points entering the final 12 minutes of play. Idaho stormed back in the fourth frame and forced the game into a tense battle down the stretch. With the D-Fenders leading by two points with three minutes to play, the Stampede launched a 15-2 run to close out the game and total a fourth-quarter opponent season-high 42 points en route to their 12th victory.

Los Angeles was led by Manny Harris' double-double (38 points, 10 rebounds) and James Southerland's career-high 26 points and nine rebounds. C.J Williams (16 points) and Josiah Turner (12 points) were the only other D-Fenders players to finish in double-digits. Terrence Williams also pitched in eight assists for Los Angeles.

The short-handed Stampede were paced by Kevin Murphy (39 points), Reggie Hearn (25 points, eight rebounds) and Dee Bost (22 points, 13 assists). In his first start of the season, Kellen Thornton contributed a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Dallas Lauderdale also pulled down 17 rebounds.

In total, Los Angeles shot 43.8% from the field through the first three quarters and held an eight-point edge. However, Los Angeles only shot 37.5% and allowed Idaho to shoot 66.7% from the field in the fourth quarter. Despite the loss, Los Angeles shot the ball well from beyond the arc tonight, making 16 attempts, which is their second highest total this season.

Los Angeles will return home to face the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate) on January 13th at 7:00pm at the Toyota Sports Center.
