Jam's Rally Falls Short against Bighorns

BAKERSFIELD "" The Bakersfield Jam (9-11) fell to the Reno Bighorns (10-9) at home Friday night by a final score of 106-104.

The Jam started fast, building a nine point lead (14-5) early in the game, before the Bighorns seized control midway through the first quarter. Reno finished the first period on a 26-9 run and took a 31-23 lead into the second quarter. After trailing by 15 points at halftime and by as many as 23 in the third, the Jam went into the final frame down just five points (84-79).

A pair of free-throws converted by Jared Cunningham tied the game at 102 with only 2:07 left in regulation. After getting a crucial stop with 8.6 seconds left, and trailing 106-104, Bakersfield's last attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime was blocked as time expired.

Damion James led the Jam with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds. Toronto Raptors' assignee Dwight Buycks had 14 points and four assists off the bench. Brian Butch, Ian Clark and Ike Diogu each tallied 13 points. Jared Cunningham recorded 11 points, four assists and four rebounds.

The Bighorns were paced by Mo Charlo (17 points, 9 rebounds) and Brandon Heath (17 points, 5 assists, 5 steals). K.C Rivers and Ra'shad James each contributed 15 points.

Bakersfield's next game is tomorrow, January 11 against the Maine Red Claws. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. PST at the Dignity Health Event Center.
