Warriors Dealt Narrow Loss to Tri-City

The Tri-City Americans used a late power-play to score the game-winning goal with less than a second left in regulation, as they narrowly beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 at Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington.

There were moments throughout the first period where the Warriors had control inside the Americans zone.  They were able to create turnovers and at times they were able to drive the Tri-City net but they were not able to finish on their chances.

The Americans on the other hand were opportunistic on their chances.

At 4:16 they opened the scoring on a goal from Sasha Mutala, and then they went up 2-0 on a power-play goal from Mutala at 11:10.

Moose Jaw had pressure on a late power-play but they were not able to convert, instead, Tri-City scored a shorthanded goal to take a 3-0 lead.

Three and a half minutes into the second period, the Warriors finally got on the scoreboard.

Ryder Korczak had the puck between the American circles and let a shot go.  The Tri-City goalie was unable to hold on to the puck, which allowed Logan Doust to get a shot at the right goal line that found the back of the net.

Down by two, the Warriors kept pushing, and they were able to inch closer with six minutes left in the period when Tate Popple ripped a shot past the glove of goalie Mason Dunsford.

Moose Jaw continued to fight in the final moments of the period and with 10 seconds left in the period, they forced a scramble on the right side of the Tri-City net.  Captain Owen Hardy was to jam the puck over the goal line, hist team-leading 21st goal tied the game at three.

Five minutes into the third period the Warriors picked up a power-play and they were able to capitalize.

Ryder Korczak had the puck on top of the right circle and made a pass cross-ice to Martin Lang at the bottom of the left circle where he one-timed the puck to the back of the net, his 11th of the year gave Moose Jaw a 4-3 lead.

With under six minutes left in the frame, the Americans had the puck in the Moose Jaw zone and moved it to the left point for Aiden Lawson who let a shot go.  Edge Lambert was on top of the Moose Jaw crease and was able to deflect it in to tie the game at four.

Inside the final ninety seconds of the game, the Americans were given a power-play and they used that to their advantage.

They had possession inside the Moose Jaw zone and fed Sasha Mutala in the high-slot, his shot beat Brock Gould with 0.5 seconds left in regulation to give Tri-City the win.

Owen Hardy and Martin Lang had a goal and two points each, and Ryder Korczak picked up two assists.

Moose Jaw's road trip will continue Sunday with a battle against local product Reece Newkirk and the Portland Winterhawks.
