Streak Snapped as Winterhawks Defeat Chiefs, 4-1

Portland, Ore. - The Spokane Chiefs saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the league-leading Portland Winterhawks on the road on Friday night.

The Winterhawks struck first just over the halfway point of the opening frame as reigning WHL Player of the Month Seth Jarvis potted his 31st of the season on a rebound chance.

Jarvis created another chance early in the second, kicking a pass from left to right to rookie forward Jack O'Brien, who slipped it past Chiefs goalie Lukas Parik to make it 2-0.

The Chiefs responded under two minutes later at 3:14 as 2020 NHL draft prospect Jack Finley continued his pace against the Winterhawks, potting his 16th of the year and 6th against Portland on a beautiful give-and-go play with WHL-leading scorer Adam Beckman.

Portland bounced right back to regain the two-goal advantage midway through the second as defenseman Jonas Brondberg rifled a point shot through a screen in front to make it 3-1. Jarvis added his second of the night on his way to first star honors midway through the third.

Parik finished the game 33 for 37 in goal as the Chiefs were outshot 37-33. Spokane's power play went 0-for-2 while the Winterhawks went 0-3 with the man advantage.

These two teams will face each other once more during the regular season, on March 13 in Spokane. The Chiefs will play Tri-City in Kennewick tomorrow night.

The Chiefs continue their five-game road swing on Saturday night at Tri-City. The game will be televised live on SWX with the broadcast beginning at 7 p.m. Mike Boyle will have the radio call on 94.1 FM The Bear with the pre-game show starting at 6:30.

Spokane returns home on Friday, February 28 for Shriners Hospital for Children (Spokane) School Night and Jersey Lunchbag Giveaway. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under will receive a Spokane Chiefs lunchbag courtesy of Shriners Hospital for Children.
