Warriors Battle Raiders, Rebels this Weekend

The Moose Jaw Warriors open the weekend with an East Division battle against the Raiders in Prince Albert.

"They're a hard working team, they make you work for everything," Warriors forward Atley Calvert said.

The Warriors enter Friday's game at the Art Hauser Centre with an 8-5-0-0 record after splitting last weekend's games against the U.S. Division. Moose Jaw beat Everett, 4-1, last Friday and then dropped a 6-2 game to Tri-City on Saturday.

Assistant coach Gord Burnett said the team continues to work on its consistency.

"When you look at Friday, I thought we played really well against a really good team and then Tri-City, they haven't fared well in their last couple games out here, but against us, they were really good and their goalie was good," he said.

"This weekend, we're looking at a little bit more of the same, we need a really good effort against P.A. and then we've got to come home on short rest against Red Deer."

The Warriors will have a change on the bench this weekend with Assistant Coaches Gord Burnett and Scott King running things with Head Coach Mark O'Leary away at the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Burnett said it will be mostly business as usual for the players.

"We're both really excited about it, a little change through the middle of the season here," he said.

Looking back at last weekend, Calvert said there's plenty for the Warriors to build off from the win over the Silvertips.

"That was our best game of the year, we played a complete game, everyone contributed that night," he said, "We scored timely goals and we played our structure."

That structure will be important against the Raiders, who are coming off a 5-4 win over Tri-City and sit at 4-9-2-0 this season.

"We've got to just play fast. If you play slow and let them get set, that's the point of the trap," Calvert said. "We've just got to go to work."

The Warriors have called up 16-year-old forward Owen Berge and defenceman Brady Ness with Lynden Lakovic and Marek Howell also away at the WU17HC.

Moose Jaw travels to Prince Albert on Friday night and then returns home to face the undefeated Red Deer Rebels on Saturday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Puck drops for both games at 7 p.m.
