
Cougars Come from Behind to Defeat Winterhawks

PORTLAND, OR - The Prince George Cougars (7-7-0-0) were able to put together a late third period comeback, after being down two goals, to defeat the Portland Winterhawks 5-4 in a shootout on Wednesday night at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
In the opening period, the Cougars got some massive saves from Ty Young early on to keep the game scoreless. Carter MacAdams got the lone goal in the opening period just over eight minutes in to put the Cougars ahead after the opening twenty minutes.
In the second period, Marcus Nguyen of the Winterhawks was able to tie the game just over four minutes in, but Ondrej Becher was able to re-store the Cougars lead shortly after. In the final minutes of the second, Nguyen again was able to find the back of the net to get the game tied after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Winterhawks were able to get ahead of the Cougars, scoring two goals in 51 seconds from both Gabe Klassen and Luke Schelter to make it 4-2. Prince George was able to rally back in the third, getting goals from Chase Wheatcroft and Ondrej Becher to force overtime.
No goals were scored in the extra frame, but it was the Cougars who prevailed in the shootout when Noah Boyko delivered the knockout blow in the fifth round to give the Cougars the 5-4 victory.
