Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - Ryan Hofer's three goals proved to be the difference Wednesday night as the Everett Silvertips defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-3.
The game didn't start well for the Wheat Kings with Silvertips forward Ryan Hofer scoring the opening goal going around Mason Ward to beat Carson Bjarnason. The Silvertips would add another with Jackson Berezowski scoring off a sharp angle shot to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first period.
Just under 2 minutes into the second frame Silvertips forward Oren Shtrom would beat Bjarnason to extend the Silvertips lead to 3-0. The Wheat Kings would find a way to narrow the gap 10 seconds later with Zakhar Polshakov generating a turnover beating Silvertips goaltender Braden Holt to get the Wheat Kings on the board. Carson Bjarnason would leave the game at the 7:17 mark of the 2nd period with illness and would not return.
With only 5 minutes remaining Polshakov would generate yet another turnover allowing Andrei Malyavin to dangle his way past Holt cutting the Silvertips lead even more making it 3-2. The Silvertips would restore their two goal lead only 3 minutes later with Ryan Hofer firing a wrist shot from the left side circle beating new goaltender Nick Jones to make it 4-2. The Wheat Kings showed a never give up mentality late in the second allowing Brett Hyland and Rylen Roersma to find Nate Danielson open in the slot allowing Danielson to score his team leading 6th of the year to make it 4-3 heading to the locker room.
The third period the Wheat Kings got into some serious penalty trouble. After Owen Harris was in the box , Mason Ward would take a second interference penalty putting the Silvertips back on the powerplay. That is where Ryan Hofer would score the hatrick goal putting the game out of reach. The Silvertips would score an empty net goal shorthanded courtesy of Austin Roest late to make it a 6-3 final in Brandon.
