Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs right winger Jason Ward has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending December 29, 2002. In three games, Ward recorded three goals and six assists for nine points, along with a plus-7 rating, helping the Bulldogs extend its unbeaten streak to 13 games.

Ward scored twice (his fifth two-goal game of the season), added an assist and was a plus-4 on Friday night as the Bulldogs won their 10th consecutive road game, coming from behind to beat Rochester, 6-4. Ward then had two assists in Saturday's 4-1 win over St. John's, and scored once and chipped in with three helpers in a 6-3 victory over the Maple Leafs on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievement, Ward will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, which will be presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Burlington Lions Optomist Minor Hockey Association (BLOHMA) in Ward's name.

Selected by the Montreal Canadiens as the 11th pick overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Ward currently ranks second in AHL goals (19), assists (32), points (51) and plus-minus rating (+23) while skating in 38 games for Hamilton. A native of Chapleau, Ontario, the 23-year-old Ward has recorded 65 goals and 89 assists for 154 points in 186 career AHL contests, and has also appeared in 44 NHL games with the Canadiens.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will look to extend their unbeaten streak to 14 games as they host the Binghamton Senators on Thursday, January 2nd at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:00 p.m. For tickets call the Bulldogs at (905) 529-8500, visit the Copps Coliseum Box Office, or call TicketMaster at (905) 527-7666.
