December 30, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs right wing Jason Ward has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending December 29, 2002. In three games, Ward recorded three goals and six assists for nine points, along with a plus-7 rating, helping Hamilton extend its unbeaten streak to 13 games.
Ward scored twice (his fifth two-goal game of the season), added an assist and was a plus-4 on Friday night as the Bulldogs won their 10th consecutive road game, coming from behind to beat Rochester, 6-4. Ward then dished out two assists in Saturday's 4-1 win over St. John's, and scored once and chipped in three helpers in a 6-3 victory over the Maple Leafs on Sunday.
In recognition of his achievement, Ward will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Burlington Lions Optimist Minor Hockey Association (BLOMHA) in Ward's name.
Selected by the Montreal Canadiens as the 11th overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Ward currently ranks second in the AHL in goals (19), assists (32), points (51) and plus-minus rating (+23) while skating in 38 games for league-leading Hamilton. A native of Chapleau, Ont., the 23-year-old Ward has recorded 65 goals and 89 assists for 154 points in 186 career AHL contests, and has also appeared in 44 NHL games with the Canadiens.
