The Springfield Falcons and St. John's Maple Leafs will meet for the second time this season when they face off at Mile One Stadium. The teams will meet again the following night in St. John's.

The Falcons are 1-0 against the Maple Leafs this season. St. John's is currently in third place in the Canadian Division with a 11-21-2-1 record for 25 points. St. John's has lost their last two games. Brab Leeb leads the Maple Leafs in scoring with 18 goals and 11 assists for 29 points. Leeb leads the AHL in power play goals with 11. Brad Boyes is second on the team and is ranked 10th among AHL rookies in scoring with 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. Boyes is tied for second on the team in goals with Alexi Ponikarovsky with 11 each. Doug Doull leads the team in penalty minutes with 93. Marc Moro is second on the team in penalty minutes with 79. Mikael Tellqvist has a 5-14-1 record with a 3.63 GAA and a .901 save percentage. Sebastien Centomo has a 6-7-1 record with a 3.66 GAA and a .885 save percentage. St. John's has the 13th ranked power play in the AHL scoring on 16.7 percent of their power play opportunities. St. John's is ranked 25th in the AHL in penalty killing, killing 80.0 percent of their shorthanded situations.

The Falcons won the first meeting between these two teams 2-1 in overtime in Springfield. Craig Mills opened the scoring in the first period from Luca Cereda. Springfield would tie the game on the power play in the second period when Ramzi Abid scored from Dan Focht and Boyd Kane. The Falcons would win the game in overtime when Jeff Taffe scored from Frank Banham and Dan Focht. Evgeny Konstantinov made 32 saves in recording the win.

PLAYER/TEAM NOTABLES:

Springfield was shutout for the third time this season on 12/28/02 by the Worcester IceCats.

Peter Fabus scored his fourth goal of the season on 12/27/02 against Binghamton.

Jason Bonsignore scored his seventh goal of the season in a 1-1 tie at Worcester on 12/29/02.

The Falcons are 1-4-1 in their last 6 games.
