Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque, NM - A combination of five home runs and 11 walks surrendered by the Albuquerque pitching staff proved too costly, as the Isotopes fell to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys 11-5 Friday night at Isotopes Park.
The Topes have dropped two consecutive home games, tying a season-worst set on four previous occasions.
Wynton Bernard led off the first with a double before moving to third on a one-out single from Carlos Pérez. Sam Hilliard then singled to right-center, plating Bernard for a 1-0 Isotopes lead. With runners on the corners, Hilliard broke for second. Space Cowboys starting pitcher Peter Solomon stepped off the mound but threw the ball into center field, allowing Pérez to trot home with the second run of the inning.
Albuquerque starter Brandon Gold was hurt by a pair of walks in the second, as Alex De Goti blasted a three-run homer to center field, giving Sugar Land a 3-2 lead.
Scott Manea launched a one-out solo blast in the fourth, making it 4-2. After a pair of walks was followed by a single to load the bases, Taylor Jones obliterated a full-count pitch to left field for a grand slam, ending Gold's outing. Reagan Todd then took over and immediately surrendered a first-pitch blast to Enmanuel Valdez. The Space Cowboys plated six in the frame, coming via three homers to go in front 9-2.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Isotopes catcher Jonathan Morales took exception to a pitch thrown up and in by Solomon, prompting the benches to clear. Heated words were exchanged between the clubs, but no physical altercations took place. The incident resulted in three ejections: Morales, De Goti and Dom Nuñez.
Later in the fifth, LJ Hatch pinch-hit for the ejected Nuñez and obliterated a three-run blast off the scoreboard in left-center, cutting Sugar Land's advantage to 9-5.
The Space Cowboys tacked on two more runs the rest of the way, with Jose Siri's solo tater in the ninth capping the scoring.
