Forrest Whitley to Continue Rehab Assignment with Space Cowboys

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Houston Astros right-hander Forrest Whitley has been assigned to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys from Low A Fayetteville to continue his rehab assignment. Whitley is scheduled to appear Monday as the Space Cowboys open a six-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas at Constellation Field.

Whitley, made two rehab starts with Fayetteville, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to go with seven strikeouts. He also made one rehab start with Astros Blue of the Florida Complex League.

The Astros selected Whitley with the 17th overall pick of the 2016 MLB Draft from Alamo Heights H.S. (San Antonio, Texas).

Whitley did not appear in a game last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2021.

Baseball America ranked Whitley within its top 100 prospects in baseball prior to each season from 2018-21, peaking at No. 5 prior to the 2019 season. He also appeared in the 2018 All-Star Futures Game.
