Vosler's 2 Homers Power River Cats Past Aces for Series Dub
July 1, 2022 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
Reno, Nev. - Three homers, two off the bat of first baseman Jason Vosler, lifted the Sacramento River Cats (32-43) to one of their most complete victories of the season as they downed the host Reno Aces (39-36) with a 6-1 win on Thursday.
The teams traded zeros through two innings until Vosler broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third with a towering 419-foot solo shot (107 MPH exit velocity).
After Reno tied the game in the bottom of the third, center fielder Bryce Johnson regained the lead for Sacramento with his fourth homer of 2022.
Vosler added an exclamation point to his three-hit, three-RBI day with a second homer, this one being a two-run shot to make it 6-1 in the eighth.
Right-hander Tristan Beck (2-5) set the tone early, striking out three and forcing eight ground outs over 5.0 innings of one-run ball.
The bullpen picked up where Beck left off. Four righties, R.J. Dabovich (making his Triple-A debut), Kervin Castro, Mauricio Llovera, and Taylor Williams each tossed a shutout inning to close out the win.
Both teams will leave Reno and head to West Sacramento for another three-game series starting Friday. River Cats right-hander Sean Hjelle (4-3, 4.96) will take on Reno righty Drey Jameson (2-5, 7.05) at 6:45 p.m. (PT) on Orange Friday. Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
Additional Notes
The win secured Sacramento its first series victory since the season-opener vs Sugar Land from April 5-10 at Sutter Health Park.
Right fielder Heliot Ramos flashed his speed in the fifth to make it 3-1. He tripled and then tagged up to score on second baseman Isan Díaz's pop up.
Left fielder Willie Calhoun continues to produce for Sacramento, plating one while going 3-for-5. Through five games, Calhoun is 8-for-21 (.381) with a home run and six RBIs.
