Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - A two-run homer from Milwaukee's Adam Walker was the difference Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field as the Milkmen dispatched the RedHawks 3-1 in 10 innings in front of 2,420 fans to close out the teams' three-game series.
The RedHawks had Ryan Williams (3-0) on the mound, hoping for his fourth win in as many starts, against Milwaukee's Angel Ventura (3-5). The only offense generated in the first seven innings of the game by either team was an RBI single off the bat of Milwaukee third baseman Garrett Copeland in the third inning.
Fargo-Moorhead was kept off the board until the eighth inning, when Adam Walker of the Milkmen dropped a fly ball off the bat of Tim Colwell that allowed Yhoxian Medina to score from third base and tie the game at 1.
Williams finished his fourth start for the RedHawks with 7 hits, 1 earned run, 6 strikeouts, and only 1 walk in 6 innings pitched. Ventura pitched a gem for Milwaukee as well, allowing no runs on 5 hits in 7.1 innings of work.
Joe Filomeno, who came on in relief for the RedHawks, was able to work around a Milkmen leadoff double in the ninth and give the home team a chance to win the game, but the RedHawks offense couldn't get a run across. Milwaukee's Walker was able to redeem himself in the tenth by crushing a two-run home run over the fence in left center to put the Milkmen on top 3-1. Myles Smith retired the RedHawks in order to pick up the save and give the Milkmen their 20th win of the season.
The RedHawks (32-17) will have an off day tomorrow before starting a three-game home stand with Sioux City (24-24). First pitch for Tuesday is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
