Walk-Off Homer Spoils Bees' Opener

April 10, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

Adam Duvall homered in the bottom of the ninth to give the Sacramento River Cats a season opening 1-0 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night. Leading off the ninth, Duvall drilled a 3-2 pitch from Ryan Mattheus (0-1) over the left field wall to give Sacramento the victory. The Bees managed just six hits, as they were shutout on Opening Night for the third time in franchise history. The Bees had a chance to snap the scoreless duel in the eighth, as they loaded the bases with no outs on singles by Grant Green and Alex Yarbrough and a walk to Kyle Kubitza, but were unable to bring the runners home, as Marc Krauss struck out, Alfredo Marte popped out and Roger Kieschnick flied out to right to end the inning.

Salt Lake starter Adam Wilk went five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts and two walks. Relievers Zach Stewart, Cam Bedrosian and Atahualpa Severino combined to throw three shutout innings. Yarbrough led the Bees with two hits, as Salt Lake suffered its ninth consecutive loss in Sacramento.

The Bees will play their home opener at Smith's Ballpark on Friday, April 17 at 6:35 p.m. with a fireworks show postgame. Tickets and additional information is available at www.slbees.com.
