The El Paso Chihuahuas pounded 18 hits in their 11-4 season-opening win over the Tacoma Rainiers Thursday. Brett Wallace went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in his Padres organizational debut. Cody Decker also hit a home run, seven months after homering in the Chihuahuas 2014 season finale at Southwest University Park.

Abraham Almonte went 5-for-5 with a double and became the first player in Chihuahuas history to collect five hits in a game. The Chihuahuas 18 hits Thursday were two shy of the team record, which was also set in a home game vs. Tacoma on May 30, 2014. By sending up three pinch-hitters in the bottom of the eighth inning, manager Pat Murphy used every position player on his roster.

Cory Mazzoni, Casey Kelly and Leonel Campos all pitched scoreless relief outings for the Chihuahuas in the win. El Paso also took the first game of 2014, defeating Reno 7-5 on April 3, 2014.
