
Walby and Baxter Named to All-ECHL First Team

BILOXI, Miss. â The East Coast Hockey League announced today the All-ECHL Teams and the Mississippi Sea Wolves placed right wing Steffon Walby (STEHF-ihn WAHL-bee) and defenseman Jim Baxter on the All-ECHL First Team.
Walby, 30, receives the honor for a second straight season. He has posted 41 goals, 46 assists for a total of 87 points in 57 games with the Sea Wolves this season. The 6-foot and 200-pound native of Lodi, Wisconsin was named starter and captain for the Southern Conference at the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game. He was also named the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week from February 10-16, 2003. In addition, Walby has earned the C&T Hockey Products ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for December, 2002 and was named the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for October, 2002. He is in his second season as the Sea Wolves player / assistant coach and team captain and is playing his 10th season of professional hockey.
"I am really honored and appreciate the acknowledgement by the league after playing fewer games than last year," said Walby. "It's fun to be able to continue to play at a consistent level."
Baxter, 23, leads all ECHL defensemen in scoring with a career-high 58 assists and 74 points. He has also scored a career-high 16 goals in 68 games with Mississippi this season. The 6-foot-3 and 215-pound native of Brantford, Ontario was named starter and alternate captain for the Southern Conference at the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game. Baxter was named the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for December 9-15, 2002. He had a team-high 12-game point streak (4g-12a) from October 26 to November 3, 2002. Baxter is in his second season as alternate captain with the Sea Wolves and fourth season of professional hockey.
"It's a great feeling and honor to be selected," said Baxter. "We (the Mississippi Sea Wolves) have had a solid season and I'm also happy Steffon Walby made the First-Team All-ECHL as well."
Mississippi gets back into action tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. by visiting Pensacola.
The Sea Wolves upcoming home games will be the opening games of the 2003 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Game 1 is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum against a yet to be named opponent. Game 2 is at 7:35 p.m. on Friday at the Wolves Den.
