March 27, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Roanoke Express News Release

ROANOKE, VA – The East Coast Hockey League announced today that Roanoke Express forwards Jason Jaffray and Rick Kowalsky have been named to the 2002-03 All-ECHL teams. Jaffray, who was named to the ECHL's All-Rookie team yesterday, was named as the left wing on the All-ECHL First Team. Kowalsky, who is enjoying one of his best seasons ever, was named as the right wing on the All-ECHL Second Team.

Jaffray has compiled 83 points in 61 games with the Express this season, and is considered one of the leading candidates for the Rookie of the Year honor. His point total leads all rookies and ranks seventh in the league in overall scoring. The 21-year-old native of Olds, Alberta has also played in two games in the American Hockey League this season with the Norfolk Admirals.

For Kowalsky, the honor is the second of his career. In 2001-02, the 30-year-old Simcoe, Ontario native was named to the All-ECHL First Team. Kowalsky is two points shy of putting together his best ECHL season ever. With 82 points this year, the former 10th Round draft pick by the Buffalo Sabres, ranks ninth in the league in overall scoring. Kowalsky's career high for points in the ECHL is 83, which he amassed last season with the Express. His overall career best for points in one season is 91, which he accomplished during the 1997-98 season, splitting time between Hampton-Roads of the ECHL and Portland of the AHL.

Overall, Jaffray and Kowalsky become the seventh and eighth Roanoke Express players to be named to the post-season All-ECHL Teams.
