Mississippi Braves News Release

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos inched closer in the Southern League South playoff race, slipping by the Mississippi Braves 1-0 on Tuesday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

The lone run came in the fourth inning for the Wahoos (32-26, 56-69) against Braves (32-25, 65-60) starter Andrew Thurman (0-1).

Thurman walked Phillip Ervin to lead off the inning, and Ray Chang hit a ground ball base hit. Tim Adleman bunted into a force at third, but back-to-back walks to Ryan Wright and Alex Blandino forced in the contest's only run.

Thurman finished with a run allowed on three hits over four innings, walking six and striking out two in the loss.

Pensacola's Tim Adleman (9-8) held the M-Braves to six hits over six shutout innings, striking out five and walking two. The outing lowered his Southern League-leading ERA to 2.12.

Matt Lipka and Levi Hyams finished with two hits apiece in the top two spots of the order, and Rio Ruiz extended his hit streak to 10 games with a single in the second.

Mitch Lambson and Jorge Reyes added a pair of relief innings each for the Braves. Zack Weiss (S, 23) completed the shutout for Pensacola with the final five outs, his Southern League leading 23rd save.

With the win, the Blue Wahoos pulled to within a ½-game of the M-Braves in second place with 12 games left to play. Mobile's 9-0 loss to Biloxi put the BayBears in third place, 1 ½ games back.

The Braves and Blue Wahoos continue the series with the fourth of five games Wednesday night at Bayfront Stadium. Right-hander Stephen Janas (1-6, 5.00) takes the hill for Mississippi against left-hander Cody Reed (3-2, 3.34), with first pitch slated for 6:35 PM CT.
