BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Jacksonville Suns (23-35, 52-75) drop the Birmingham Barons (32-25, 65-61) 8-2 in game three of their series Tuesday night from Regions Field.
Esmerling De La Rosa (W, 1-0) lasted two and a third innings on the mound allowing one run (earned) on four hits while walking and striking out one in relief for Jacksonville. Barons starter Mark Blackmar (L, 5-7) posted six innings allowing five runs (all earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out three, and would retire that last 14 batters he faced in order.
The scoring would begin in the top of the second after Jacksonville loaded the bases for Sharif Othman's RBI single making the tally 1-0 in the Suns favor. Next batter Danny Black then laced a two RBI base knock into left ballooning the Suns lead to 3-0. Kenny Wilson would then push a bunt down the first base line bringing in another runner, and making it a 4-0 contest. Carlos Lopez continued the offensive production in the frame when he lined a run-scoring double down the right field line making it a 5-0 ballgame.
Birmingham's Brian Fletcher led of the third inning with a double, to then move to third on a fly out. Fletcher came home to score two batters later after Tim Anderson's RBI infield single that made the tally 5-1.
Flashing to the last of the fourth, against Suns reliever De La Rosa, Tony Thomas generated a two-out triple down the right field line, to then get knocked home by Joey DiMichele's RBI single trimming the Suns lead to 5-2.
Moving to the top of the ninth Kenny Wilson's RBI single scored Sharif Othman and pushed the Suns in front 6-2. Next batter, Lopez, then mashed a RBI triple into right scoring Wilson from first and creating a 7-2 edge. After a RBI sacrifice fly by David Adams, Lopez would plate and push Jacksonville ahead 8-2.
Alex Burgos in his spot start for Jacksonville lasted three frames allowing one run (earned) on two hits while walking one and striking out three. Raudel Lazo out of the bullpen tossed a scoreless two and two-thirds innings. Tyler Higgins worked a scoreless ninth in relief for the Suns.
The Suns and Barons continue their series Wednesday night with a first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. ET from Regions field. The Suns have yet to announce their starter while the Barons will counter with righty Frankie Montas (5-4, 2.49 ERA).
