Shuckers Slip Past BayBears in Extra Innings

BILOXI, MS - For the second straight night, the Mobile BayBears (30-25, 64-60) and the Biloxi Shuckers (29-27, 72-52) played 11 innings. The Shuckers topped the BayBears 2-1 on Monday night at MGM Park. With the score tied at one, Yadiel Rivera delivered a one-out RBI single to left to score Nathan Orf for the walk-off win. With the loss, Mobile now trails Mississippi by 1.5 games in the Southern League South Division Standings.

Both starters pitched well but did not factor in the decision. BayBears RHP John Omahen tossed six innings of two hit ball, allowing just one run while walking two and striking out six. RHP Jorge Lopez made the start for the Shuckers and limited Mobile to just one run on seven hits, walking one and striking out six in six innings.

Mobile scored first with a run in the top o the third inning when Socrates Brito crossed home from third on a sacrifice fly from Rudy Flores. The 1-0 lead for Mobile was erased with the Shuckers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Tyrone Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly from Brett Phillips.

The loss was charged to BayBears RHP Jimmie Sherfy (1-6) who allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the 11th inning. Biloxi LHP Jed Bradley (1-1) earned the win after tossing two scoreless frames in the 10 and 11th innings.

Mobile and Biloxi continue their five game set with game three scheduled for Tuesday night at MGM Park beginning at 6:40 PM cst.
