Jackson Generals News Release

Montgomery, Ala. - For the second time in three games against the Biscuits, Jackson was held scoreless in a 3-0 loss at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday night. The Generals had two men in scoring position with nobody out twice in the contest, but came up empty both times in the team's fifth-straight loss.

Jackson (17-40, 46-79) started strong against Montgomery's Austin Pruitt. Ian Miller led off the game with a single and moved to third on a double by Tyler Smith. The Generals failed to score in the inning, as Miller was picked off at third by catcher Justin O'Conner and the next two batters flied out.

Smith's double extended his on-base streak to 20 games. The streak is the third-longest active stretch in the Southern League, and it's his fourth such streak of at least 11 games this year.

Pruitt (10-5, 2.72) was dominant after the first inning, going the next seven frames without allowing another hit. After hitting Tyler Bortnick with a pitch in the third inning, the righty retired the final 17 batters he faced. Pruitt struck out eight without walking a batter in eight shutout innings to earn the victory.

Dylan Unsworth (2-7, 5.10) kept the Biscuits off the board in the first three innings before Montgomery (36-22, 70-56) scored in the fourth. A single and a double put two men in scoring position with nobody out, and Jake Bauers came through with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Cameron Seitzer to make it 1-0.

It was Bauers who drove in Montgomery's second run as well. The Biscuits loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a single in the sixth with nobody out to force Unsworth from the contest. Kyle Hunter entered in relief, allowing two of the inherited runners to score. Bauers drove in Seitzer with another sacrifice fly and Dayron Varona came home on a passed ball to make it 3-0.

Hunter was very strong out of the bullpen for Jackson, retiring the final seven men he faced. He tossed three scoreless innings in relief, and he hasn't allowed a run in his last nine innings of work overall. The southpaw has surrendered just one run in six August appearances.

Jackson threatened in the ninth against Montgomery closer Brad Schreiber. Tyler Bortnick reached on an error and Ian Miller singled to put two on with nobody out. A passed ball moved both men into scoring position, but Schreiber (S, 8) rebounded with three-straight strikeouts to finish off the win.

The Generals were held scoreless for a league-worst 21st time in the loss, and it was the team's third shutout in its last five games. Jackson has been kept off the board in 26 of 27 innings over the first three games of this series, and they've struck out 36 times as a team.

Game four at Riverwalk Stadium is slated for Wednesday night. Southpaw James Gillheeney (4-5, 3.14), who went eight innings in his last start, gets the ball for Jackson against Montgomery's Taylor Guerrieri (2-1, 2.35). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) in Jackson and online via the TuneIn Radio App starting at 6:50 pm CT with the Tennessee Army National Guard Pregame Show.
