Jackson Generals News Release

Montgomery, Ala. - Jackson scored four runs on five hits in the final inning, but a 10-run deficit was too much to overcome in a 10-4 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss was Jackson's fifth in a row against Montgomery and their seventh in eight games overall.

Jackson (17-39, 46-78) was one out away from getting shut out for the third time in four games, but they rallied in the ninth against Montgomery's Mark Sappington. With the bases loaded, former Biscuit Tyler Bortnick singled in a pair to get Jackson on the board. Ian Miller followed with a two-run single of his own to make it 10-4, but Sappington struck out Guillermo Pimentel two batters later to put an end to the contest.

Montgomery (35-22, 69-56) scored early and often in the win on Monday. Dayron Varona's first-inning sacrifice fly gave the Biscuits the game's first run and snapped a 12-inning scoreless streak from Jackson's Misael Siverio.

Siverio (4-11, 4.38) gave up two runs on three hits in the second inning and left after a two-out triple by Tyler Goeddel in the fourth. Patrick Leonard drove in Goeddel with a single off of reliever Richard Vargas to make it 4-0.

The Biscuits added a pair in the fifth off of Vargas, getting RBI doubles from Jake Bauers and Jake DePew. They put the finishing touches on an offensive masterpiece in the seventh, scoring four times on as many hits. Bauers started the rally with an RBI double. Two batters later, Tommy Coyle tripled in two runs and Goeddel followed with a run-scoring single to make it 10-0. Goeddel finished the night a home run shy of the cycle.

Trey Cochran-Gill, who hails from nearby Tallassee, Alabama and pitched collegiately at Auburn, was charged for three runs on two hits in 1.2 innings of work. He worked a scoreless sixth before Montgomery's big seventh inning, inducing his 13th double play of the season to end it.

Montgomery's Jaime Schultz (8-5, 3.81) was nearly untouchable in his six shutout innings on the mound. The righty set a season high with 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits. All 10 of his strikeouts came in the first four innings. Jackson tied a season-worst with 14 strikeouts in the game.

Jackson needs a victory in game three Tuesday night to avoid another series defeat. Dylan Unsworth (2-6, 5.26) is expected to get the ball for the Generals opposite Montgomery's Austin Pruit (9-5, 2.87). First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm CT, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) and the TuneIn Radio App starting at 6:50 with the Tennessee Army National Guard Pregame Show.
