Edmonton responded right away in the next half inning as Tom Collaro, Matt Rogelstad, Alex Prieto, Josh Tarnow, and Ryan Stevenson all singled for a 4-2 advantage.
Another two runs were added to the lead by the Capitals in the third when Larry Bigbie homered and Rogelstad singled, stole second base, and scored on two wild pitches for a 6-2 lead.
Bigbie and Collaro hit solo home runs in the fifth inning to increase the Edmonton lead to 8-2.
The Vipers got a run back in the bottom of the frame as Joe Sergent and Mejia singled followed by a walk to Brent Metheny to load the bases where a run scored on a wild pitch for a 8-3 score.
In the top of the sixth the Capitals increased their lead as Evan White doubled, Stevenson walked, Cruz reached on a fielding error, Bigbie and Brumbaugh walked for a RBI each, and both Rogelstad and Prieto singled in tallies for a 12-3 advantage.
