Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA.) The Chico Outlaws scored six unanswered runs after being down 5-0 to St George after three innings and ended up with a 6-5 victory over the Roadrunners on Friday night at the Nett.
The "Knuckle Princess" Eri Yoshida got the start for the Outlaws and had trouble finding a rythm in fourth go-around, giving up three runs to St George in the first inning on two hits and an Outlaws error. Her final line was three innings pitched, allowing five earned runs on five hits, walking one and hitting two batters; however, she got a no-decision in the game.
The five runs and five hits are the most Yoshida has allowed this season.
St George started off the game with leadoff hitter Vic Buttler walking and promptly stealing second and third base. Buttler scored on a throwing error by Outlaws catcher Mike Rose while stealing third for the game's first run. Henry Calderon singled and made it to third on Yosvany Almario's single, then came home on a wild pitch by Yoshida. Third baseman Jermy Acey then hit a sac fly to score Almario and the Roadrunners led 3-0 after a half inning.
Yoshida gave up a run in the second after hitting the first two batters of the inning, putting Buttler in position to hit a sac fly of his own to plate a run and extend the lead to 4-0.
The Roadrunners final run of the night came on sac fly by Nick Fitzgerald in the third inning to score Almario, who singled to lead off the frame against Yoshida.
Chico put up its first run of the night on a Mikael Jova sac fly to score Bobby Hill, who singled off St George starter Reed Dickert (2-4) to lead off the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Outlaws put up a three spot on Dickert as eight batters came to the dish. Rich Janeway, who went 3-4 with a double in the game, singled to start the inning. Shortstop Pascual Del Real then plated Janeway with an RBI double to cut the lead the Roadrunners lead to 5-2. Two batters later, Hill walked to put two runners on. JJ Sherrill and Jova both hit RBI singles and the lead was sliced to 5-4.
Two final runs came home for the home team in the sixth on RBI doubles by Janeway and pinch-hitter John Urick, giving the Outlaws the lead at 6-5.
Leftie Wayne Franklin (3-1) came out of the Outlaws bullpen in the fourth inning and he stymied the St George offense immediately, throwing three shutout innings enroute to his third win of the year. Josh Dew pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Outlaws, while Justin Segal picked up his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close the game.
St George falls to 13-24 overall with the loss, while the Outlaws move to 28-9 on the season and move the magic number to clinch the GBL North title to two games.
Chico and St George will play game three of this four game holiday weekend series on Saturday night as right hander Javier Ortiz takes on leftie Jon Dutton for St George.
