Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals are officially on a roll. The Caps used a combination of good pitching and timely hitting to outpace their southern Alberta counterparts. Edmonton dumped on the Calgary Vipers 8 - 2 to stretch their winning streak to five games and did it in style giving Capitals fans their first look ever at the road grey uniforms prominently featuring the wordmark 'Edmonton' on the chest. After Caps starter Alexander Francisco left with a blister problem after two innings, Mike Hrynio came in to pitch in the third inning and promptly proceeded to mow down Calgary Viper hitters one after another. He struck out the side in the fourth and sat down twelve Vipers in a row before giving up a double to Kevin Price in the top of the seventh. Hrynio got his fifth win of the season and finished with seven strikeouts in five innings giving up only one hit and one run.

Edmonton also received some clutch hitting on Friday to break the game open. Larry Bigbie and Cliff Brumbaugh both doubled with two outs in the third to give the Caps a 4-1 advantage and they would never look back. Tom Collaro hit his eighth home run of the season which was a three run opposite field to extend the lead to 7-1 and that was all she wrote for Calgary.

"I think the guys are really starting to believe in each other, we're playing hard, the pitching and defense are coming together and we're getting big hits when we need them. I'm pretty excited," stated field Manager Brent Bowers. "It's not how you start, but how you finish and I am looking forward to an even better second half of the season."

Edmonton (21-15) now sits alone in second place in the North Division trailing the Chico Outlaws by six and a half games. The team heads to Calgary for two games this weekend before returning on Family Vision Care $2 Tuesday for a special Mexican Fiesta themed evening in the opener of a five game series with the Tijuana Cimarrones. It will be Tijuana's first ever visit to Edmonton and they come in struggling with a 6-30 record. The Capitals will look to take advantage and finish off the first half of the season on a high note. Edmonton Eskimo quarterback Ricky Ray will also be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch July 6th.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capital season seats start at under $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season and individual tickets are available for just $10 every game. Purchase tickets at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or visit capsbaseball.ca.
