
Toros Drop Road Opener to Yuma 6-2

Yuma, AZ - The Tucson Toros dropped the first game of their two game road series against the Yuma Scorpions 6-2 on Friday night.
Yuma scored 5 unanswered runs within the first three innings before Tucson got on the board with a run of their own in the 4th inning. The Scorpions added an additional tally in the bottom of the frame, but the Toros bullpen would hold Yuma in place thereafter. Tucson added their final run in the 7 th after a sacrifice fly, RBI by Catcher Luis Apodoca to finalize the score 6-2.
Tucson starter John Bannister had a rough night giving up 6 runs (4 earned), on 13 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 in 5 innings of work. Bannister received his first loss of the season fall to 2-1. Toros' newcomer Jesse Orosco Jr. maintained his spotless 0.00 ERA with a scoreless inning of relief. Lefty Cody Walden followed with two scoreless frames to lower his ERA to 2.08. The Scorpions were held scoreless for the final five innings of the contest.
The 18 game hitting streak for Toros 1B Cristobal Santana came to an end. Santana finished the night going 0-for-2 with one walk, hit by pitch and scoring one run. RF Francisco Plasencia's hitting streak was extended to 12 games, followed by LF Lino Garcia who has hit in 6 straight games going back to June 26th.
The final game of the brief 2-game road series will take place Saturday at Yuma's Desert Sun Stadium with a scheduled start time of 7:05 pm. The Toros will return to Hi Corbett on Sunday, July 4th to celebrate Independence Day with a special Star Spangled Spectacular fireworks show when they will once again take on the Yuma Scorpions.
