Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals are not going to let their foot off the gas. Their winning streak is up to six after an 12 - 9 victory over the Vipers in Calgary. The altitude close to the mountains must be helping because Edmonton's pounded out 53 hits in just three games at Foothills Stadium. Calgary scored a pair in the bottom of the first to take their only lead of the game and then the Capitals started scoring in bunches. An error and a series of four singles lead to four runs in the top of the second inning for the Caps. Larry Bigbie hit a solo shot to lead off the third inning and Matt Rogelstad would later score on a wild pitch to give Edmonton a 6 - 2 lead.

Bigbie lead of the fifth inning with another solo home run and Cliff Brumbaugh swatted his league leading eleventh home run of the season. The Vipers didn't help themselves in the sixth inning when they walked in a pair of runs with the bases loaded and the Caps extended their lead to 12 - 3. Calgary mounted a comeback with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but that's as close as they'd come.

The Capitals have yet to lose against their provincial rivals this year and have passed them in to second place in the GBL's North Division with a record of 22 - 15. There are just eight games remaining in the first half of the season and Edmonton remains six and a half games behind the Chico Outlaws who have their own five game winning streak and have only lost nine times this season.

Edmonton will wrap up this series of six straight games with the Vipers Sunday afternoon in Calgary. The next home game for the Capitals will be Tuesday when the Tijuana Cimaronnes make their first visit to TELUS Field marking the first time a professional team based out of Mexico plays a regular season game of any kind in Edmonton. It'll be a Fiesta Night on Tuesday July 6th with sombrero giveaways, Mexican food and entertainment. Plus, Edmonton Eskimos starting quarterback Ricky Ray will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capitals season seats start at under $9 per game and are still on sale pro-rated to the end of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
