St. George RoadRunners News Release

CHICO, CA - After announcing his retirement from baseball, Outlaws first baseman Rich Janeway went 3-for-4 from the plate and scored the go-ahead run in a comeback win for Chico over the St. George RoadRunners 6-5 on Friday Night at Nettleton Stadium.

Janeway stole the spotlight from Eri Yoshida who struggled through three innings against St. George. The Japanese knuckleballer allowed five runs on five hits. St. George base runners swiped four bags against her during her start.

Vic Buttler walked to lead off the game and stole second. An errant toss from home on Buttler's attempt to third allowed him to score the game's first run. Back to back singles from Henry Calderon and Yosvany Almario and a Yoshida wild pitch set up Jermy Acey for an RBI sacrifice fly to cap the three-run frame.

Yoshida plunked the first two batters of the second, C.J. Lang and David Ramirez. A sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position. Buttler flied out to deep right allowing Lang to tag from third for a 4-0 St. George lead.

Another RBI sacrifice fly from Nick Fitzgerald in the third plated Almario for a 5-0 lead.

RoadRunner starter Reed Dickert cruised through the first three frames facing just one man over the minimum. He struck out four over that span.

The Outlaws began their comeback in the fourth on the heels on a solid relief frame from Wayne Franklin. Mikael Jova knocked home Bobby Hill in the home fourth.

Chico closed within a run at 5-4 with three tallies in the fifth. Janeway started the rally with a bunt single and scored on a double from Pascual Del Real. Hill and J.J. Sherill added RBI singles.

Janeway doubled in Ismael Castro to tie the game in the sixth and scored on a pinch-hit double by John Urick to give the Outlaws their first and only lead at 6-5.

Dickert was tagged with the loss (2-4) allowing all six runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings. Monte Mansfield and Eude Brito retired the final eight batters consecutively to keep Chico close.

Franklin quieted St. George for three frames. Josh Dew allowed two hits in his two frames and Justin Segal (2) retired the side in order in the ninth to preserve the comeback win.

Chico (28-9) maintained a six-and-a-half game lead over Edmonton in the North Division while the RoadRunners (13-24) dropped their third straight.

Game three of the holiday weekend series is Saturday night at 8:05pm Mountain from the Nett. St. George will start LHP Jon Dutton opposite Javier Ortiz for the Outlaws.

Audio coverage from Chico begins at 7:45pm with John Potter on the Infowest Pre-Game Show on ESPN SportsRadio 1210AM and online at Network1Sports.com.
