Flyers Get Comeback Win Over First Place Maui

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers drove in six runs in the eighth inning, five of them with two outs, for a come-from-behind 10-7 win over first place Na Koa Ikaika Maui on Friday night. Rookie Tyler Keeble led the offense with two homeruns and five RBI, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored including the game-tying run in the eighth.

The Flyers trailed Na Koa Ikaika 7-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth before Keith Ginter and Sergio Pedroza led off the inning with walks. Two batters later, Keeble singled home Ginter, and after a second out on an Eric Pringle pop out, Alex Jamieson drew a walk to load the bases and bring up the top of the order.

Steve Boggs, who began the game 0-for-4, came through with a two-run single up the middle, tying the game, 7-7. Derek Perren followed with a two-run triple giving the Flyers the lead, and Jimmy Rohan doubled to cash Perren making it 10-7 Flyers.

Mike Koons picked up the win, tossing two innings and giving up one run on four hits. Koons (2-0) set a new franchise record with 16 and 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched, a streak he saw snapped with two outs in the top of the seventh. Andre Simpson picked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out the final batter to end the game for his team-leading fifth save.

After Maui opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the second on a pair of RBI ground outs, Keeble blasted a three-run homerun in the bottom of the inning for an early 3-2 lead. Two innings later, he went deep again for the 15th multi-homerun game in franchise history as OC took a 4-3 lead.

Maui pulled ahead with a three-run fifth on Jowen Murry-Thornton's two-run double and Tim Battle's RBI single for the 6-4 lead. Michael Higa added an RBI single in the seventh to snap Koons' streak and make it 7-4 Maui.

Orange County sends former National League All-Star Byung-Hyun Kim to the mound in the first game of a doubleheader against Maui. First pitch of the first game is at 5:05pm, and the second game will begin approximately a half hour after the end of Game 1.
