St. George RoadRunners News Release
The St. George RoadRunners and Tucson Toros engaged in another classic see-saw battle Tuesday night at Bruce Hurst Field in game two of an early week series. Three eighth-inning doubles off Jesse Orosco, Jr. pushed the RoadRunners to a 6-5 win to even the series at one game apiece.
Â
Brett Flowers hit two doubles over the course of the final frames - his second to right-center plated Henry Calderon. That extra-base hit was immediately followed by a Scott Clement double to score Flowers with the eventual game winner. Orosco (3-2) takes the loss after the doubles barrage.
Â
Mitch Arnold (1-1) stuggled through three batters allowing two runs on three hits beginning the seventh, but earned his first win retiring the next six in a row.
Â
Clement broke the seal on the STG scoreboard with a solo home run (2) to center field in the second.
Â
Tucson tied the game on Cristobal Santana'a two-out single off Reed Dickert in the fourth and corralled the lead on a fielding error by Flowers at first with two-out in the fifth.
Â
A two-out rally in the 'Runners sixth began with a double from Yosvany Almario. Two singles from Jermy Acey and Calderon set the table for Flowers who doubled in the pair for a 4-2 lead. St. George loaded the bases with two walks, but pinch hitter Casey Raisbeck flied out to the warning track.
Â
Josh Womack doubled off of Arnold in the Toro seventh plating Luis Apodaca and Ron Perodin to even up the game at 4-4.
Â
In the ninth, Womack lined a broken-bat single to left against scoring Apodaca. Within a run, Jose Valdez grounded into a double play pushing lead-runner Darren Blakely to third. Jose Obispo fell behind Lino Garcia with a count of 3-1. On a fastball, Garcia bounced to shortstop to end the game. The closer picked up save number three in 2010.
Â
The series concludes Wednesday night at 7:05pm with RHP Matt Rossignol starting for St. George. The Toros are countering with LHP Cody Walden.
