July 27, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The St. George Roadrunners scored 2 runs in the 8th inning to take the second game of the three game road series from the Tucson Toros 6-5 after Tucson rallied for a run in the 9th but fell a run short of scoring the tying run.
A solo shot by Roadrunners' Catcher Scott Clement gave St. George the early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning.
Tucson went on to score a run in both the 4th and 5th innings, which included an RBI single by 1B Cristobal Santana in the 4th.
In doing so, Santana also increased his current hitting streak to 11 straight games.
He would finish the night with 2 hits, both singles, in 4 at-bats with an RBI.
St. George strung together 4 consecutive hits with 2 out in the 6th inning leading to 3 runs, including a 2 RBI double to right-center by Roadrunners 1B Brett Flowers on a full count to make it 4-2 St. George.
However, the Toros answered right back and led off the top of the 7th inning with 3 consecutive hits of their own, with CF Josh Womack's 2-run double to left center off the bat of Toros to tie it back up at 4 apiece.
Back-to-back-to-back doubles by the Roadrunners in the bottom of the 8th gave them the late 6-4 lead and with an extra insurance run that proved necessary to withstand Tucson's 9th inning rally.
Womack singled in another run in the 9th, but the Toros stranded the potential tying run at third base to thwart the comeback.
Toros start Albie Lopez received a no decision, but when 5 strong innings allowed just 1 run.
Roadrunners relief pitcher Mitch Arnold was awarded the win, his first of the season, while fellow reliever Jose Obispo recorded his second save on the season.
Tucson
will look to claim the road series with the final game of the 3-game set on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Tucson time.
The Toros will then head home to Tucson to host the Tijuana Cimarrones for a 3-game series beginning on Thursday.
