Vipers Sweep Weekend Series With Energy 122-104

DES MOINES, IA, Jan. 10, 2010 - The Western Conference leading Rio Grande Valley Vipers finished a weekend sweep of the Iowa Energy with a 122-104 vicotry in Des Moines Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Vipers improve to 13-4 on the season while the Energy fall to 15-4.

In similar fashion to Saturday night's game between the two teams, Rio Grande Valley jumped out to a commanding halftime lead, 63-52. Reserve guard Jonathan Wallace scored all 13 of his points in the first half while teammate Garret Temple scored 12 points in the first half.

Iowa's Shyron Ely would cut the lead to 7 with 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter, but the Vipers would extend the lead back to 12 on a Mike Harris 3-pointer at the 3rd quarter buzzer.

Rio Grande Valley, who shot a sizzling 54.8% from the field, was led by Harris' 29 points and 10 rebounds while Temple added 24 points.

The Energy were led by Othyus Jeffers, who finished the game with 21 points. Sean Barnette scored a season high 16 points for Iowa in his first start of the season.
