
Vipers Unplug Energy By Sweeping Road Series

DES MOINES, Iowa -Six Rio Grande Valley Vipers scored in double- figures led by Mike Harris' 29 points, as they knocked off the Eastern Conference leading Iowa Energy 122-104 Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The win gives the Vipers a sweep of the season series with the Energy and a 4-1 record on their five game road swing.
The Energy had a much better start to Sunday's game as they led by as many as seven points in the first quarter. Energy forward
Iowa tied the game at 38 on an Earl Barron lay-up with 8:44 remaining in the second quarter. The Vipers then followed with a 21-4 run capped off by a Garrett Temple three-point play to give the Vipers a 17 point advantage, their largest of the game at that point with the score being 59-42 with 3:04 remaining in the first half. The Vipers led 63-52 at halftime following a modest end of half rally by the Energy.
The Energy pulled to within eight in the second half after a pair of Othyus Jeffers free throws with 1:29 remaining in the third quarter, but would not get any closer. The Vipers would follow with a 14-4 run that extended into the fourth quarter to run their lead to 18 points. The Vipers led by as many as 20 in the final frame and finished with an 18 point victory over the opposing conference leader.
Harris scored 25 of his 29 points in the second half, and hauled in 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double since returning to the Vipers on Saturday. Rockets assignee Joey Dorsey finished with 22 points and 10 boards, while Juilan Sensley scored 10 and brought down 11 boards as they had double-doubles as well. Jonathan Wallace and Carig Winder had huge games off the bench for RGV, Wallace was perfect from the field making all five of his shots for 13 points, while Craig Winder scored nine.
Jeffers led all Energy scorers with 21 points and five rebounds. Sean Barnette and Jeff Trepagnier each added 16 points. Curtis Stinson scored 12 points, dished out seven assists and hauled in six rebounds in the loss for the Energy.
The Vipers will return home for a back-to-back home series with fellow conference rival the Albuquerque Thunderbirds beginning on Wednesday night. Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Dodge Arena.
