D-Fenders Drop To Bakersfield Jam

January 10, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release

EL SEGUNDO, CA- The fact that Jam forward Amara Sy fell one rebound short of a triple-double does nothing to diminish his all-around impact on Bakersfield's 110-102 victory over the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders. The 6'8" Frenchman finished with 21 points (on 9-for-14 shooting), 11 assists, nine rebounds and a block in 41 impressive minutes to make the Jam's first home game in weeks a winning one.

It was Jared Newson (22 pts, 4 reb) who led Bakersfield's early charge, shooting 5-for-6 for 12 first-quarter points to help establish a 23-15 lead by the end of the period. Brian Butch, the Jam's leading scorer since his early-season acquisition, started slowly after two early fouls, but came on late to finish with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Ryan Forehan-Kelly did his best to keep the D-Fenders within striking distance, but his game-high 25 points on red-hot 9-for-11 shooting from the field was not enough to bring Los Angeles all the way back. Bakersfield harassed their opponents into 4-for-14 shooting from beyond the arc and never let the D-Fenders within five points after their early lead.

Reece Gaines and newcomer Will Daniels, appearing in his first game for the Jam, led a strong effort from the Bakersfield bench with 11 points apiece. Fellow reserve John Williams' knocked down a late free throw that iced the victory on his way to 10 points and eight assists.

Los Angeles faces Utah in their next game, Friday January 15 afternoon at Staples Center.
