Vipers Set For Finals Rematch
June 4, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release
The Calgary Vipers are returning home to Foothills Stadium tomorrow, Friday June 5th at 7:05 PM MDT, to open a seven-games-in-six-days home stand against the 2008 Golden Baseball League Champion Orange County Flyers. It will be the first meeting between the two clubs since Orange County defeated Calgary in the fifth and deciding game of the Championship last season. In that game the Vipers carried a lead into the bottom of the ninth inning only to give up two runs and lose the title in heartbreaking fashion. It will also be the Vipers' Mini-Baseball Keychain Giveaway Night as Erik Dessau (2-0) makes his third start of the season for the Snakes against Matt Durkin (0-1). Dessau has tossed ten and two-third innings this season striking out 11 for a 4.22 earned run average. Durkin is also making his third appearance of the season and in 11.1 innings he has a 3.97 E.R.A. Former 1st Round Pick (15th Overall) and first-baseman Clint Johnston will be making his Vipers' debut.
Saturday June 6th at 5:05 PM MDT the Vipers and Flyers will play a double-header with both games scheduled for seven innings and it will be Calgary Zoo Day at the Ballpark as a Koala will be on hand to throw out the first pitch. In Game One Joe Sergent (1-1) will toe the rubber for the Snakes against Cardoza Tucker (0-1). Sergent is making his fourth start of the year and has tossed 19.2 innings while striking out 13, walking only two, and posting a 2.75 E.R.A. Tucker makes his third start and in nine innings he has walked ten, struck out eight for a 5.00 E.R.A. In the back half of the twin-bill Evan Greusel (2-1) starts against Adam Johnson (0-2). Greusel is coming off back-to-back wins after losing his first outing. Johnson meanwhile has lost both of his appearances this year and has a 7.36 E.R.A.
This four-games-in-three-days series wraps up on Sunday June 7th at 1:35 PM MDT. Challenger Little League will be in attendance for Sunday's matinee after the Vipers' Children's Charity Snakes and Batters donated $5000.00 to Challenger Little League last month. Reggie Rivard (1-1) will make his second start of the season for the Vipers coming off a tough luck loss where he went five innings and gave up only two runs.
Calgary welcomes the St. George RoadRunners on Monday June 8th, Tuesday June 9th, and Wednesday June 10th all at 7:05 PM to wrap up the home stand with a three game series. On Monday it will be ViperPod Speakers Giveaway Night.
Tickets can be purchased over the phone at 403-277-2255 or by stopping in at the Vipers Ticket Office at 2255 Crowchild Trail N.W. All games can be heard live online at www.calgaryvipers.com.
