June 4, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros closed out their three game series against the Edmonton Capitals with a convincing 12-6 win, Wednesday night at Hi Corbett Field.

Current GBL Pitcher of the Week, Lorenzo Barcelo, improved to 3-0 on the season as he dominated the Capitals through seven innings and bettered his league leading ERA to 0.47. Barcelo only gave up one run, unearned, on three hits and he fanned seven Edmonton batters.

The Toros bullpen struggled a little as Jason Hanna gave up five runs, four earned, in the eighth inning before giving way to Tom Wilhelmsen who threw a near flawless ninth.

Offensively, the Toros pounded out 16 total hits. Skip Adams led the way as he extended his hit streak to ten games, with a 4-5 night. Adams hit a pair of singles, a double and a triple, all while driving in three RBI.

Dustin Yount also had a big night at the plate as he went 3-4, was a triple short of the cycle, scored three runs and drove in two. Jim Rushford also had a three hit night as he went 3-5, with a pair of doubles. Rushford also scored twice and drove in two RBI.

The Toros next action will be tomorrow night as they host International Performance Baseball for an exhibition game at Hi Corbett Field. The full length exhibition contest is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm and the popular Thirsty Thursday promotion will be in effect.
