Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - Squaring off against the Orange County Flyers for the second time in as many days, the Victoria Seals took to the field looking for their third consecutive win at Royal Athletic Park. With the Flyers sending former second-overall draft pick Adam Johnson (0-0) to the mound, the Seals countered with Isaac Hess (0-0) who made his second appearance of the season.

Victoria jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday evening, using bases-loaded singles from both Brian Rios and Kyle Nichols to take a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. Seals' starter Hess carried his team from there, striking out eight Orange County batters while allowing no runs through six innings work. With Hess in cruise control on the mound, both the Seals and Flyers played five straight scoreless innings, leaving Victoria out front by two headed to the seventh.

A wild pitch from Flyers' reliever Armando Carrasco in the bottom of the seventh gave Victoria a 3-0 when Brian Rios cashed in following his fifth hit of the game, a new team record.

With Ezequiel Ruvalcaba in trouble and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Mike Reeves took to the mound for the fourth time this season. Despite one Orange County run in the game's final inning, Reeves forced Travis Becktel into an inning-ending groundout to hand the Seals their third straight victory at Royal Athletic Park, a 3-1 final over the Flyers.

Isaac Hess was lights-out en route to his first win of the year, and Orange County starter Adam Johnson drops to 0-1 with the loss. Coming into the game with just five hits on the season, Brian Rios finished 5-for-5 with an RBI in the winning effort for the Seals. Nick Guerra went 1-1 with a pair of walks for the Flyers.
